This One Journaling Habit Changed My Life

I’m an entrepreneur and the entrepreneur life can be very stressful and disheartening—life, in general, is this way sometimes. In January of this year, I was low on inspiration and motivation. I was in a funk, and I wasn’t sure how I was going to get out of it.

I remember the day I went to a mall nearby to clear my mind and enjoy myself for a few hours. As I walked around the mall with negative thoughts swirling in my mind, I eventually made it to the store Urban Outfitters—there I saw the book You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. I’d seen this book plenty of times before, but for some reason, on this day, it was calling my name, so I bought it.

In You Are a Badass, Jen talks about the power of our minds and how our thoughts manifest in our lives. As I read the book, one thing that really stuck out to me was the power of affirmations (positive statements that shape the way we think and act).

After I finished reading the book, I knew I had to find a journal that was devoted solely to my affirmations, so I went on a hunt for the perfect journal. Eventually I found the Éccolo “Notes” journal. I love the journal because of the quality and features (like the gold details, placeholder ribbon, and abundance of pages). I knew that if I was going to write positivity into my life, my journal had to be something that was worth writing in.

Nowadays, I look forward to writing my affirmations down in my journal every morning. Typically, I think about my recent negative thoughts, I reframe them, and I write them down as positive affirmations. For example, if I’m feeling low on creativity, I write an affirmation like, “My creativity is unlimited and abundant, always.” This simple shift in my mindset is so helpful because it’s impossible to think negative and positive thoughts at the same time. Before I know it, I have my next creative idea.

I wake up every day knowing that there’s nothing a positive thought can’t change. The more you fill your mind with positive affirmations, the more your life changes inways that you didn’t think were possible.
